Background

To honour Bertram Brobergs memory, and also to promote continuing work on the many ideas, which he shared so generously with students and colleagues throughout his lifetime, the first Broberg Memorial Symposium was arranged at UCD, 9-10 May 2007. Symposium (lit. drinking together) echoes something of Bertram's style: graciously sharing creative ideas about nature, science, technology and environment, thereby building bridges [bro = bridge, berg = mountain] across the divides which now separate generations, countries and disciplines. A special meeting of interested persons will be arranged during that event to discuss prospects for continuing activities. The future vision is an bi-annual Broberg Symposium to be held (initially) on alternate years at University College Dublin and at Lund Institute of Technology, and later - depending on expressions of interest - in other locations around the world. Highlight of these events would be a funded Broberg Lecture by a world-class outstanding scientist. Presenter of the best paper would also be granted a prize consisting of travel costs to the subsequent symposium.

The second Broberg Memorial Symposium was held in Lund 2009.

A third Broberg Memorial Symposium is planned to be held in Lund 2011 in connection with the 50th anniversary of Lund Technical Highschool.
