The third K Bertram Broberg Memorial Symposium will be held in Lund in association with the 50th anniversary of Lund Institute of Technology:
May 30-31 2011

The organizers of the third symposium to honor the memory of Professor Bertram Broberg have the pleasure to announce a meeting with the focus on theoretical, experimental and computational mechanics at Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden (LTH). LTH is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011, and Professor Broberg was called to be the first professor of LTH in 1961. He also became the Vice Chancellor of LTH. To honour his memory, a first symposium was arranged in Dublin in May 2007 at the instigation of his widow, Anne Buttimer-Broberg, and a second symposium was arranged in Lund in May 2009. This third symposium at LTH in Lund is a part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of LTH. The intention is to maintain the informal atmosphere of the previous symposia, and to keep the participants limited to about 50 persons.

The symposium has four bridging pillars

  • Bridging borders: Swedish / Irish “core”
  • Bridging generations: “greys and greens”
  • Bridging dimensions: micro to macro
  • Bridging materials: bio-, geo-, man-made
It is essential to have a broad scope which reflects Bertram’s almost limitless area of interests and to attract the “right” people in a world of dedicated symposia
